Drug Kingpin Nabbed in Lagos as NDLEA Recovers N1.4bn Worth of Drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has achieved a major milestone in its fight against drug trafficking with the arrest of a notorious drug baron, Ogbonnaya Kevin Jeff, who had been evading capture for 17 years.

 Brigadier General Buba Marwa, Chairman of the NDLEA, announced the arrest during a press conference at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday. 

The 59-year-old suspect was apprehended at his hideout in the Ojo area of Lagos, where illicit substances valued at N1.4 billion were seized. Marwa described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in dismantling international drug trafficking networks operating in Nigeria.

Jeff, identified as the leader of an international drug trafficking organization, had been under NDLEA investigation for years.

 Intelligence revealed that he recruited young Nigerians as drug couriers, smuggling illicit substances into South Korea. Many Nigerians arrested abroad for drug-related offenses were linked to him. Additionally, Jeff allegedly laundered drug proceeds through the importation of electronics and other goods. During a search of his residence, operatives recovered multiple Nigerian international passports belonging to different individuals, many of which contained Korean visas, as well as illicit substances stored in a warehouse at the back of his house.

Marwa commended the NDLEA operatives for their dedication and professionalism, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to targeting high-profile drug barons and dismantling their networks. He reiterated the NDLEA’s resolve to curb the menace of illegal drugs in Nigeria and called for continued public support in the fight against drug-related crimes.

 The arrest of Jeff marks a significant victory for the NDLEA, showcasing its enhanced capabilities and determination to tackle drug trafficking head-on. 

As the agency continues its efforts, this case serves as a warning to other drug lords that no one is beyond the reach of the law. The NDLEA remains steadfast in its mission to create a drug-free society and ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians.
