The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed claims by controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, that he is undergoing psychiatric treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Abeokuta. In a recent video, Portable declared himself a “madman” receiving treatment, pleading with Nigerians and the Ogun State Government after being declared wanted by the police. However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, insisted that Portable must surrender for investigation, stating, “He cannot be in the psychiatric hospital in Aro. Everybody knows he is a wanted person.”
Portable was declared wanted following an alleged assault on three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development during an enforcement exercise in Ota. The officials claimed Portable and nine thugs attacked them with a firearm, leaving them injured. While nine associates were arrested, Portable fled and has since ignored multiple police invitations. The police have now obtained a court order declaring him wanted.
In his defense, Portable claimed he is being framed due to his association with Senator Adeola Solomon (Yayi), representing Ogun West. He reiterated his mental health condition, stating he is a “Federal Government liability” and receives regular treatment at Aro Hospital. However, Damilare Oloyede, Special Assistant on New Media to Senator Adeola, distanced the lawmaker from Portable’s legal issues, emphasizing that the singer’s predicament stems from his “irresponsibility and lack of decorum.”
The police remain firm in their pursuit of Portable, urging him to surrender for investigation. The case highlights the ongoing tension between the singer and law enforcement, with Portable’s claims of mental health treatment failing to deter the police from seeking justice for the alleged assault.
