The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, which was conducted from November 14 to December 14, 2024. Announcing the results at a press conference in Minna, the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed that 86,067 candidates registered for the examination, with 84,799 sitting for the tests.
Prof. Wushishi revealed that 57,114 candidates, representing 67.35%, achieved five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics. In English Language, 75.62% of the 83,220 candidates who sat for the subject obtained credit passes, while 93.93% of the 83,024 candidates who took Mathematics achieved the same. Additionally, 70,711 candidates (83.39%) secured at least five credits, irrespective of English and Mathematics.
On the issue of examination malpractice, Prof. Wushishi reported a 27.7% decline in cases, with 6,160 candidates booked for various infractions compared to 8,518 in 2023. Seven supervisors from Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi states were recommended for blacklisting due to misconduct, while 14 examination centres—10 in Ogun and 4 in Oyo—were sanctioned for widespread malpractice.
Candidates can access their results on the NECO website (www.neco.gov.ng) using their examination registration number. Prof. Wushishi expressed appreciation to the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, and other stakeholders for their support in ensuring the successful conduct of the examination.
The release of the results highlights NECO’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examinations while addressing malpractice and ensuring transparency in the assessment process. Candidates are encouraged to check their results promptly and follow up on any concerns through the appropriate channels.
