South African authorities have detained Anabela Rungo, the mother of model Chidimma Adetshina, in Cape Town following the revocation of her South African documentation, which was allegedly obtained fraudulently. The Department of Home Affairs confirmed that Rungo’s documents were canceled in September 2024 after it was discovered that they were acquired through fraudulent means. Despite being declared “undesirable” in South Africa, Rungo reportedly continued to reside in the country using her Mozambican passport, violating immigration laws.
The arrest was part of a joint operation conducted by investigators from the Counter-Corruption and Immigration Services branches. During the operation, authorities discovered that Rungo was living with Adetshina’s underage child, raising concerns about the child’s welfare. The Department of Home Affairs is now collaborating with the Department of Social Development and the South African Police Service (SAPS) Child Protection Unit to ensure the child’s safety and well-being.
Rungo is also under investigation by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, for her alleged involvement in criminal activities. She is expected to be handed over to SAPS for further questioning and legal proceedings. The case highlights the South African government’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and illegal immigration, particularly in cases involving fraudulent documentation.
This incident has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of Chidimma Adetshina, a well-known model and public figure. While Adetshina has not been directly implicated in the case, the detention of her mother and the involvement of her child have raised questions about the family’s legal and immigration status. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their status, are held accountable for any violations. The case remains under investigation, with further details expected to emerge as legal proceedings unfold.
