The abductors of retired General Maharazu Tsiga, former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have demanded a ransom of N250 million for his release. General Tsiga was kidnapped on Wednesday night when over 100 armed men stormed his residence in Katsina State. The assailants reportedly surrounded the house, broke down doors, and forced the retired general to come out. According to Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, a member representing Bakori/Danja federal constituency in Katsina State, General Tsiga confronted the attackers and asked them what they wanted before being taken away.

Security operatives have since launched a manhunt to rescue General Tsiga from his captors. However, a source close to the family, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed on Friday that the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded N250 million as a condition for his release. The source did not disclose whether the family had begun negotiations or if any payment had been made.

The kidnapping of General Tsiga highlights the growing insecurity in Katsina State and other parts of Nigeria, where armed groups frequently target high-profile individuals and demand hefty ransoms. The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of citizens, particularly in regions plagued by banditry and kidnapping.

As the search for General Tsiga continues, the situation underscores the urgent need for improved security measures and proactive strategies to combat criminal activities. The family, friends, and well-wishers of the retired general are anxiously awaiting his safe return, while authorities work tirelessly to ensure his release and bring the perpetrators to justice. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing Nigeria’s security forces and the need for collective efforts to address the nation’s security crisis.
