A Port Harcourt-based man claiming to be Burna Boy's cousin has sparked online debates after accusing the Grammy-winning artist of neglecting his family while giving $30,000 (₦46 million) to Bethel Okechukwu, allegedly related to socialite Cubana Chief Priest.
In a viral video, the man expressed frustration, stating that despite their shared upbringing in Port Harcourt, Burna Boy has never extended financial support to their family. He alleged that when he sought assistance to start a business, Burna Boy dismissed him, advising him to "hustle like a man."
The accusations have drawn mixed reactions online. Some critics argued that "charity begins at home," questioning Burna Boy’s priorities, while others defended the singer, emphasizing that his wealth is not an obligation to others.
One social media user commented, “Burna Boy earned his success. Family doesn’t mean entitlement.” Another added, “It’s called the law of grace; blessings aren’t always equal.”
The man did, however, acknowledge Burna Boy’s mother, Bose Ogulu, for occasionally assisting their family, softening his criticism.
This incident follows Burna Boy's recent controversies, including his ongoing feud with Cubana Chief Priest. The video has fueled discussions about balancing family responsibilities with public acts of generosity.
