The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched an initiative to combat drug abuse in Nigeria, particularly among young people. The "Catch Them Young Project: Consumer Safety Club" was unveiled at the Government Girls' Secondary School in Rumuokwuta, Rivers State.

NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the need for collective action to eradicate drug abuse, which affects approximately 14.3 million Nigerians. She called on teachers, students, and youths to collaborate with the agency to address this growing concern.

The project aims to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse and promote consumer safety. By targeting young minds, NAFDAC hopes to prevent the spread of drug abuse and foster a healthier, more informed generation.

NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye had this to say;

"I am delighted to be here for the inauguration of the NAFDAC Catch Them Young programme, focusing on drug abuse education and awareness to address this menace in Nigeria.

This initiative is critical because it targets the segment of the population most affected—our youths and, by extension, our teenagers.

As part of its mandate, NAFDAC seeks to collaborate with stakeholders on drug demand reduction programmes, including campaigns in secondary schools, to combat drug abuse among young Nigerians."
