Canadian rapper Drake has launched a federal defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG), alleging that Kendrick Lamar’s diss track, Not Like Us, falsely portrays him as a pedophile.

The track, which became a viral sensation amid their ongoing feud, has sparked a legal battle with Drake accusing UMG of promoting the inflammatory content for profit and damaging his reputation.

In his lawsuit, Drake claims that UMG knowingly allowed the song’s lyrics and visuals to depict him in a harmful light, all for financial gain. The rapper also accuses the label of inflating the song’s streams by 30 million through the use of bots and manipulating radio play to boost its chart performance.

Drake further alleges that the song’s release has endangered his safety, citing multiple shootings near his Toronto mansion since its debut. He also highlights UMG’s role in securing Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming Super Bowl performance, suggesting it was a strategic move to amplify the track’s reach.

“This legal action is not against Kendrick Lamar personally but against UMG for its reckless and harmful promotion of the song,” Drake clarified.

In response, UMG denied the allegations, maintaining that they adhere to high ethical standards in their marketing campaigns.

The lawsuit marks the latest chapter in the heated rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, which has been characterized by a series of diss tracks from both artists. While Not Like Us is widely regarded as one of the most impactful tracks in their feud, it has also become the focal point of this high-profile legal dispute.

Drake had initially filed a lawsuit in New York but later withdrew it to pursue federal legal action, signaling his determination to hold UMG accountable. Fans and industry observers are closely watching the case, which could have significant implications for the music industry and its handling of artist disputes.
