Victory for John Dumelo: Actor Wins Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Election

Famous Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has secured a landmark victory in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency election.

Running on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo defeated the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a closely watched parliamentary race.

Election Results

The actor-turned-politician emerged victorious in Saturday’s general election, held on December 7, 2024, with an impressive 40,561 votes. His opponent, Lydia Alhassan, who previously held the seat, garnered 27,377 votes.

This marks a significant turnaround for Dumelo, who contested for the same seat in 2020 but narrowly lost to Alhassan.

A New Chapter

Dumelo’s win is being celebrated as a testament to his persistence and dedication to serving the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon. The actor, who began his career in 1991 and gained fame through his roles in Gollywood and Nollywood, has now cemented his place in Ghanaian politics.
