"I Was Very Naive": Tems Reflects on Early Career Struggles

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has opened up about the challenges she faced at the start of her career.

In an interview with Glamour Magazine Germany, the Essence crooner revealed how her initial naivety shaped her journey in the music industry.

Tems admitted that she was unprepared for the complexities of the music business when she started out: "I don’t want to lie. I was very naive at the beginning of my career – I just wanted to make good art. I had to learn how to navigate the music business in a healthy way."

Her candor highlights the challenges many artists face in balancing creativity with the realities of the industry.

Tems credited her management and family for helping her stay grounded as her fame skyrocketed: "I would say that it is both my management and my family that keep me grounded. Especially my family, my mother and my brother."
