Davido Opens Up on Faith, Family, and Overcoming Challenges: ‘God Has Your Back’

Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has credited his father’s teachings about unwavering faith in God as the foundation for his resilience through life’s toughest moments.

Speaking during a podcast interview with Rollingout, the Timeless crooner reflected on his upbringing in a Christian home and the lessons instilled by his father, Adedeji Adeleke, who is not only a successful businessman but also a devout elder in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Davido shared how his childhood in a deeply religious household shaped his perspective on life and challenges:

“My dad is very successful, but he’s an elder in the church. I grew up as a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. I attended a Christian college.”

He revealed that his father’s insistence on trusting God, even during hardships, helped him navigate his own personal losses and triumphs.

The singer opened up about grappling with the loss of his son Ifeanyi and how, over time, his faith gave him clarity and solace:

“I overcame a lot of challenges because of my dad. Initially, I did not understand, but now I’ve come to the realization. I was angry. Sometimes, I was like, ‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’ And my dad told me that you can’t question God.”

He went on to explain how faith and patience helped him see blessings emerge from the pain:

“A year later [after Ifeanyi’s death], we had twins, the biggest album of my career came, and my first Grammy nominations came. Then it started to make sense. People go through different challenges, but just know that God has your back.”

Davido’s heartfelt story has resonated with fans, who’ve flooded social media with messages of support and admiration.
