Nigerian singer Dammy Krane has poured cold water on the controversy surrounding VeryDarkMan (VDM), dismissing the viral claims of a ₦180 million theft from the social critic’s NGO account as nothing more than a prank.
VDM sparked a media frenzy on December 27 when he alleged in a video that hackers had breached his NGO’s website, transferring ₦180 million and leaving only ₦20 million. The shocking revelation caused a wave of outrage and speculation, with critics and supporters clashing over the authenticity of the claim.
However, Dammy Krane took to Instagram to set the record straight. According to the singer, the entire scenario was fabricated as a prank. He clarified that VDM is currently focused on a school renovation project in Jos and assured the public that no funds were stolen.
Human rights activist Omotayo Williams also weighed in, questioning the legitimacy of VDM’s viral video. Williams called the footage “fabricated” and criticized the stunt for misleading the public and creating unnecessary drama.
He added that the individual presented by Very Dark Man as an officer accompanying him to Jos is, in fact, a member of the Kogi State Taxi Taskforce. This claim has raised further questions about the credibility of Very Dark Man’s narrative, deepening the skepticism surrounding his account.
While some social media users have expressed relief over the clarification, others are not amused, calling the prank distasteful given the sensitive nature of such allegations. Many are demanding an official apology from VDM for misleading the public and tarnishing his credibility.
As the dust settles, questions linger about the intentions behind the prank and its impact on VDM’s reputation as a social critic and advocate.
