Nollywood star Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha has opened up about the lengths she went to prepare for her role in the recently released Netflix series Seven Doors.
In the series, Akpotha plays the role of an Igbo queen married to a Yoruba king, portrayed by Femi Adebayo. The show explores themes of kingship, family, love, betrayal, and restitution, and required Akpotha to speak fluent Yoruba—a challenge she embraced wholeheartedly.
Speaking during an interview with TVC alongside co-star Femi Adebayo, Akpotha revealed that she learned Yoruba specifically for the series, ensuring her delivery was authentic. She noted that the Yoruba dialect used in the show was different from the more casual version spoken in Lagos: "I had to learn Yoruba for my role in Seven Doors. The Yoruba in the movie was not the regular one spoken in Lagos State, so I had to be very particular about the tone."
Her dedication to perfecting the language added depth and authenticity to her portrayal of the queen, earning her praise from fans and colleagues alike.
Seven Doors stands out for its rich cultural storytelling and the seamless blend of Igbo and Yoruba traditions. The collaboration between Akpotha and Adebayo has been celebrated as a testament to the unifying power of art in showcasing Nigeria’s diverse cultures.
As Seven Doors continues to gain traction on Netflix, Akpotha’s performance is solidifying her reputation as one of Nollywood’s most versatile and dedicated actresses. Fans are eager to see what challenges she will take on next.
