A decade ago, Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold unknowingly set the stage for a remarkable career when he penned and recorded “Sade”, a song that would become a turning point in his journey as an artist.
The Genesis of a Classic
On that fateful day, Adekunle was driving home from work in his green car, fondly called his "baby boy," when “Story of My Life” by One Direction came on the radio. Struck by the melody’s beauty, he quickly recorded it on his phone, not knowing it would lay dormant for months before shaping his future.
The inspiration resurfaced while he was working on an EP, leading to the creation of “Sade”, a heartfelt cover of the One Direction hit. "Dada produced the song for free. He believed in me before the world did," Adekunle recalls.
