An Ikeja High Court has set January 23, 2025, as the next hearing date for the defamation lawsuit filed by prominent Nigerian human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, rapper Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, against social media critic Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM).
During the court session on Thursday, Falana’s legal team, led by Muiz Banire (SAN), announced that the originating legal documents had been served to VDM and requested more time to complete administrative filings. However, Justice Matthias Dawodu noted that the court had not received the originating documents.
VDM’s counsel, Marvin Omorogbe, argued that the writ of summons was invalid since it was not before the court, urging Justice Dawodu to strike out the lawsuit. He also sought withdrawal of a previously filed motion, which the court granted without objection from the claimants' counsel.
Following the hearing, VeryDarkMan took to social media with a pointed statement: “They’re not God,” a declaration that has resonated with supporters online. The case, which has garnered significant public attention, will resume on January 23, 2025, as both sides prepare for what promises to be a heated court showdown.
