In a heartfelt revelation, Nollywood actress and producer Ufuoma McDermott has shared her harrowing journey with Stage 4 kidney disease, shedding light on how chronic pain and reliance on painkillers almost claimed her life.

Speaking with media personality Chude Jideonwo, McDermott explained that her health challenges began after her younger brother tragically passed from kidney disease—a loss that intensified her own health struggles.

Initially diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease, she delayed treatment, leading her condition to escalate to Stage 4. McDermott revealed that years of excessive painkiller use contributed to her deteriorating health, as she coped with unrelenting pain over the years.

"I had pushed my body and I was borderline stage 4,” McDermott shared, reflecting on how she felt her life slipping away last year. "Last year was a very, very trying time in my life where I thought I was gonna die. I have battled chronic kidney disease for about 12 years now."

Her story has sparked conversation around kidney health, raising awareness of the dangers of untreated health issues and the risks associated with self-medication. Fans and well-wishers have expressed their support, hailing McDermott for her strength and courage.
