The Nigerian Army has confirmed its awareness of a viral video allegedly showing Major General G.S. Mohammed and his aide, Corporal A. Abubakar, assaulting a couple, identified as Mr. Vershima Mker and Ms. Lami Jennifer Iorvihi, in Abuja.
In a statement to SaharaReporters, Army spokesperson Major General Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident:
“The Chief of Army Staff has directed investigation into the matter. We cannot ascertain the veracity of the video now, as we are not privy to the events that led to the altercation.”
Nwachukwu emphasized the need to understand the full context of the exchange before drawing conclusions:
“You can have a video showing an altercation, but it’s important to know what led to it. The investigation will provide clarity after hearing from the Major General.”
The viral footage has sparked widespread criticism, with many Nigerians condemning the apparent abuse of power and calling for accountability. Social media platforms are abuzz with demands for justice for the assaulted couple.
