The 2024 African Military Games (AMGA) are kicking off today in Abuja, and Nigerian music heavyweights D’banj, Olamide, Yemi Alade, and Timi Dakolo are ready to electrify the opening ceremony with unforgettable performances.
The Nigerian Army hyped the event on X, saying: “The stage is set and the legends are coming for the opening ceremony of #AMGA2024. Watch @Olamide, @iamdbanj, @yemialadee and @timidakolo light up the opening ceremony like never before.”
These celebrated artists, known for their high-energy performances and global appeal, are set to headline a spectacular opening night at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, where 25 African nations will gather for this prestigious event.
This year’s games feature athletes from 25 countries competing in 19 sporting activities, ranging from athletics to combat sports. All events will take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, except for obstacle crossing and shooting, which will be held at specialized facilities.
Organized by the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the games aim to foster camaraderie and unity among African military forces.
D’banj is no stranger to major sporting events, having performed at the 2013 AFCON closing ceremony in South Africa, where Nigeria’s Super Eagles triumphed.
Yemi Alade delivered a show-stopping performance at the 2023 AFCON opening ceremony in Ivory Coast, captivating the audience with her vibrant energy and pan-African vibes.
The inclusion of these iconic artists underscores Nigeria’s cultural and musical leadership on the African stage.
As the 2nd edition of the African Military Games begins, the event promises not only thrilling sports but also a celebration of African talent and unity, highlighted by a dazzling opening ceremony that will resonate far beyond the stadium.
