Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has sparked discussions by claiming that women dominate the entertainment industry. Speaking on TVC’s ‘Your View’, Bovi emphasized that women hold significant influence in Nollywood and other entertainment sectors, yet continue to push for equality despite already being in leading positions.
During the interview, Bovi highlighted notable female figures like Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu, Bolanle Austin-Peters, Jade Osiberu, and Kemi Adetiba, who have made considerable strides as producers and directors. He also mentioned Amaka Igwe and Chioma Ude as pioneers who shaped the industry’s success, stating, “Women run the entertainment industry.”
He further addressed issues of sexual harassment raised by young female actresses, acknowledging the challenges while urging them to speak to those already in power within the industry—many of whom are women.
Bovi’s remarks have since ignited debate on social media, with some agreeing that women indeed hold significant positions, while others argue that challenges such as gender-based discrimination still persist. His perspective has opened up conversations about the progress and obstacles women face in entertainment.
