Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has once again ignited controversy, this time accusing Nigeria's wealthy elite, including his longtime rival Davido, of "weaponising poverty" to gain power and influence.
The More Love, Less Ego crooner took to social media to hurl accusations at Davido, reigniting their ongoing feud with a series of sharp remarks.
The More Love, Less Ego crooner took to social media to hurl accusations at Davido, reigniting their ongoing feud with a series of sharp remarks.
Wizkid, who began dragging Davido earlier this week, resumed his scathing comments on Wednesday. He mocked Davido, branding him a "spoilt rich kid" and claiming that despite Davido’s wealthy background, he was neither as successful nor as talented as himself. Wizkid also took aim at Davido's music, style, and business dealings, claiming the Omo Baba Olowo hitmaker is "cheap" and charges less for shows than most of their colleagues in the industry.
On his X handle, Wizkid wrote, “First off, you’re not as fly as me, can’t sing or make music like me, you can’t dress, you don’t make more money than me, you don’t even got shoes like me… you pull up for less than we do! Now f*ck off you spoilt rich child!”
Wizkid’s comments didn’t stop there. In a blistering attack, he accused Davido of surrounding himself with "broke" people to worship him, claiming that Nigeria’s rich class exploits the country's widespread poverty for their own gain. He further dismissed Davido’s self-imposed title as the "001" of the Nigerian music industry, suggesting that the title only applied to Davido's Instagram followers.
“Naija is a place the rich weaponize poverty… Call you 001 you delusional f*ck… The only time you’re 001 is when you’re in your house. You’re not 001 of nothing but Instagram followers!” Wizkid wrote, before adding, “You don’t make more money than anybody in Nigeria in music! Cheap guy! Everything about you screams cheap.”
The ongoing feud between Wizkid and Davido has once again sent social media into a frenzy, with fans of both artists debating the merits of their music, wealth, and impact on the industry. As tensions between the two Afrobeats giants escalate, many are left wondering if Davido will respond to Wizkid’s fiery remarks or continue to remain silent amid the brewing storm.
