Jack’eneth Opukeme, co-director of the highly anticipated film Farmer's Bride, has offered a deep dive into the film’s core message, emphasizing the ripple effects of forcing individuals into difficult situations.

Speaking during the exclusive movie press screening on Thursday in Lagos, Opukeme highlighted the complexity of human behavior when pushed into tight corners.

Inspired by the powerful themes from Ola Rotimi’s The Gods Are Not to Blame, Opukeme reflected on the tragic narrative of Funmi, a young woman forced into a loveless marriage with an older, wealthy farmer, Odun. Her entanglement in an illicit affair with Odun’s nephew, Femi, ultimately leads to heartbreaking consequences.

"If Funmi hadn’t been forced into that marriage, the tragedy could have been avoided. Humanity is complex, and we can't predict how someone will react when cornered," Opukeme stated, emphasizing the film’s moral lesson. “The monster we create will hunt us tomorrow.”

Farmer’s Bride, released in cinemas on September 27, 2024, takes viewers on a rollercoaster of love, betrayal, and consequences. The film, starring Tobi Bakre, Mercy Aigbe, Femi Branch, and Wumi Toriola, has already sparked conversation for its riveting storytelling and complex characters.

With its emotional depth and powerful lessons, Farmer’s Bride is a must-watch that explores how one forced decision can unravel a lifetime of tragedy.
