In a recent candid interview, Chief Munir Balogun, father of Afrobeat sensation Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, offered insights into the family’s commitment to charity, their close-knit bond, and his advice to his son in the face of criticism from rival fanbases.

Chief Balogun, a respected figure in Surulere, discussed how the value of giving back to the community runs deep in their family. He shared how both he and Wizkid have prioritized charitable acts, reflecting their upbringing. "We believe in helping others, especially those in need. It’s something we’ve always done, and I’m proud that my son continues this tradition."

Addressing the frequent criticisms and online spats between Wizkid and Davido’s fans, Chief Balogun revealed that he has advised his son to stay focused and rise above the noise. "I’ve told him many times not to pay attention to people who try to provoke him. Often, they are looking for attention or trying to get something out of it. I told him to focus on his work and let his achievements speak for themselves."

The elder Balogun also reflected on Wizkid’s humble nature, despite his global fame. According to him, Wizkid remains deeply connected to his family and frequently seeks his father’s guidance. "Fame hasn’t changed him. He’s still that boy who listens to advice, especially when it comes to family matters. We speak often, and I continue to guide him on what’s important in life."

Munir Balogun also touched on the personal tragedy of losing his wife, sharing how the family’s faith has helped them cope with the loss. "It was a difficult time for all of us, but we leave everything to God. Our faith has kept us strong, and we continue to trust in His will."

Through their resilience and commitment to charity, the Balogun family remains a symbol of humility and generosity, even amid the pressures of fame and public scrutiny.
