Nigerian singer Chike has raised eyebrows, claiming Apple Music Nigeria’s top 10 and top 20 charts are "heavily rigged." Speaking candidly in a recent episode of Curiosity Made Me Ask with Bae U Barbie, Chike suggested that with a significant budget, artists can manipulate streaming positions for chart success.
“Your top 10 and top 20 on Apple Music is rigged… Not all the time, to be fair, but most times,” Chike revealed. He added that with $30,000, he could propel his music to the top 10, emphasizing how visibility in the music industry has become increasingly pay-to-play. "Right now, if I want to be top 10 on Apple Music, I can tell my guys ‘okay please spend $30,000’ and we will go to top 10. But then it’s not real,” he explained.
He acknowledged that this practice may not apply to every song in the charts but claimed it's frequent enough to impact the authenticity of what listeners see on the rankings.
Chike’s statement has sparked heated debates among music fans, who question whether these top-charting songs genuinely reflect listener preferences or financial backing. The singer's revelation adds fuel to a broader conversation on the role of paid promotions in music visibility and authenticity.
