Speaking during a live session on Friday, October 25, 2024, Kuti made it clear that, while he supports Verydarkman as a friend, he has no influence over his actions.
The statement comes after Verydarkman’s NGO received substantial anonymous donations, totaling over N200 million—including N100 million from music icon Don Jazzy. This influx of funds has fueled heated discussions online, with some questioning the activist’s integrity and the sources of his NGO’s financing.
Addressing these concerns, Kuti acknowledged the growing assumptions about his role in Verydarkman’s initiatives but firmly stated that the activist is independent. "I don't like charity, but I like letting people do what they want… Let them show their real intentions," Kuti shared, hinting at his philosophy of allowing people to act on their own terms.
Kuti’s comments come as a reassurance to fans and critics alike, dispelling any notion of his direct involvement in Verydarkman’s operations. The clarification has further sparked discussions, with social media users weighing in on the complexities of influence, charity, and activism in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.
