In response to the helicopter crash that occurred on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the military and relevant agencies to enhance their rescue and recovery efforts at the crash site.
The unfortunate incident involved a chartered helicopter, identified by the registration number 5NBQ operated by. the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The helicopter had departed from the Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) and was headed to the NUIM ANTAN oil rig near Bonny Finima when it crashed approximately one kilometer from its intended destination at around 11:30 a.m., according to Eyes Of Lagos.
Following the incident the, President had issued a directive last night highlighting the importance of prompt and effective search and rescue operations to locate any survivors and address the situation's aftermath.
In a statement released by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President called on military personnel involved in operations in the area to support the rescue efforts, working in collaboration with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other pertinent agencies.
“The President extends his condolences to the Board and staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident,” the statement added.
Tinubu offered sincere prayers for the three individuals who have passed away, requesting that the Almighty grant them eternal peace and provide solace to their mourning families.
