Paul Di’Anno, the original lead singer of Iron Maiden, has passed away at the age of 66. The heavy metal icon died at his home in Salisbury, as confirmed by his record label, Conquest Music. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Di’Anno was known for his vital role in shaping the early sound of Iron Maiden, contributing to their first two albums, Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981), which are widely regarded as classics in the heavy metal genre. His raw, gritty vocals helped define the band's early success before his departure in 1981.
Conquest Music, in a heartfelt statement on Facebook, shared, "It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Paul Andrews, known to fans as Paul Di’Anno. We invite his fans to remember him for the incredible music and passion he brought to the stage." The band Iron Maiden also paid tribute to their former frontman, acknowledging the indelible mark he left on their legacy: "We are grateful for the memories we shared and the lasting influence Paul had on the band."
Di'Anno's influence on heavy metal, particularly during his tenure with Iron Maiden, continues to be celebrated by fans worldwide. His later projects, including his 2024 album The Book of the Beast, further solidified his place as a legend in the genre.
