"My dark complexion was not the only setback I faced. Refusing to sleep around cost me roles for over a decade," Jumoke revealed. She noted that directors would complain about her skin tone, urging her to appear lighter on screen, to which she would respond by requesting proper lighting instead of altering her complexion.
Jumoke went on to describe how her steadfastness led to her being blacklisted. "One day, I asked a director why he hadn’t called me for work in years. He told me a group of directors had agreed not to cast me because I wouldn’t comply with their demands. I broke down but resolved to hold my ground,” she recounted.
Her story has struck a chord with fans and industry colleagues, sparking discussions about integrity and discrimination in Nollywood. Jumoke's unwavering dedication to her values now serves as a powerful testament to resilience and self-respect in the face of industry pressure.
