The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the suspension of four senior officers amid the ongoing investigation into the alleged bribery scandal involving popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
The officers were reportedly involved in misconduct tied to Bobrisky's incarceration and treatment while serving his jail term at Kirikiri and Kuje facilities.
The officers were reportedly involved in misconduct tied to Bobrisky's incarceration and treatment while serving his jail term at Kirikiri and Kuje facilities.
This confirmation follows a trending video in which one of the suspended officers, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Michael Anugwa, claimed he had not received an official suspension letter.

The NCoS swiftly labeled the video an "act of gross misconduct aimed at misleading the public," affirming that Anugwa and three other officers were indeed suspended.

The NCoS swiftly labeled the video an "act of gross misconduct aimed at misleading the public," affirming that Anugwa and three other officers were indeed suspended.
The suspended officers include:
1. DCC Sikiru Adekunle – Officer-in-charge of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos
2. DCC Michael Anugwa – Officer-in-charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos
3. DCC Kevin Ikechukwu Iloafonsi – Officer-in-charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, FCT
4. ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna – Assistant Superintendent of Corrections at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abakiliki, Ebonyi State.
The suspension, effective from September 26, 2024, was issued by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) to facilitate further investigation into their roles in the alleged bribery scheme. The NCoS clarified that the suspensions were necessary to allow for a transparent inquiry.
This development follows explosive allegations made by social media influencer Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, who claimed that Bobrisky had bribed officials with N15 million to avoid money laundering charges and paid additional sums for preferential treatment during his six-month prison sentence. Bobrisky has denied all allegations, and investigations are ongoing.
In a statement, the NCoS reassured the public of its commitment to thorough investigations, emphasizing that no officer found guilty would be shielded from punishment. "We remain resolute in ensuring accountability and discipline within the Service," the statement read.
Despite these confirmations, DCC Michael Anugwa maintained during a House of Representatives hearing that he had not been served a formal suspension letter, further complicating the unfolding investigation.
The public continues to watch closely as this high-profile case unfolds, with the outcome of the investigation set to have far-reaching consequences for both the NCoS and those involved in the scandal.
