Veteran Actress Joke Silva Recounts Last Moments of Legendary Singer Onyeka Onwenu After Her Tragic Collapse [Video]

Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has shared the heartbreaking details surrounding the tragic collapse and passing of iconic Nigerian singer, Onyeka Onwenu.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Silva recounted the events that unfolded at a birthday celebration for Emzor Pharmaceuticals CEO, Stella Okolie, in July 2024, where Onwenu suddenly fell ill.

Silva revealed that she and Onwenu had been joyously singing and dancing to “One Love” at the event when the singer suddenly collapsed after returning to her seat. Onlookers, including Shola Momoh, quickly noticed something was wrong and called for help.

Despite having a pulse, Onwenu was unresponsive, leading guests to immediately perform CPR while doctors at the event attempted to revive her.

Describing the frantic scene, Silva emphasized the tremendous efforts made to save Onwenu’s life. Sadly, despite being rushed to the hospital, the beloved singer passed away an hour and a half later.

Onyeka Onwenu, a legendary figure in Nigeria's music and entertainment industry, was laid to rest on August 30 at Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi, Lagos. Silva’s moving tribute to her friend highlights the deep sense of loss felt across the country as fans and colleagues mourn the passing of one of Nigeria’s most revered artists.
