Nigerian singer and producer Philip Kayode, popularly known as Pheelz, has taken a profound stance on the purpose of music, challenging the perception that it’s a fast track to wealth. According to Pheelz, music serves a much deeper, spiritual role in society.
In a heartfelt post on his X handle, the ‘Finesse’ hitmaker emphasized the significance of music, stating, "Music is not a grind. It is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It is not a hustle. Music is life. Music is feeling. Music is healing. Music is God."
Pheelz further differentiated between music and the business side of the industry, describing the commercialization of music as man's attempt to monetize divine energy. He wrote, “The music and the music business are 2 different frequencies to me. The Music Business is man’s attempt to commodify God’s energy. The Music itself is God.”
This reflective take comes amidst a growing trend of up-and-coming and established Afrobeats stars citing poverty as a driving force for their careers.
Pheelz’s words highlight the importance of appreciating the spiritual and healing power of music, rather than focusing solely on its financial rewards.
