She recalled offering her scripts to filmmakers in exchange for roles, saying, "I’d say, you know what, don’t pay me, just give me a role in the film." However, she was unsatisfied with how her vision was brought to life on screen. "I write in pictures... when I’m watching the movie, it’s so different."
Driven by a desire to see her stories portrayed as she envisioned, Oboli decided to transition from acting to directing. She explained, "If my stories are going to have my DNA, then I’m going to have to direct them myself." She acknowledged the fear that came with the decision but affirmed her determination with a Warri-inspired mindset: "Warri no dey carry last."
Oboli's passion led her to study directing more closely while on set, and eventually, she took a formal course at the New York Film Academy to refine her skills.
Her journey from trading scripts to becoming one of Nollywood’s top filmmakers showcases her resilience and dedication to her craft.
