A Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of prominent National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leader, Ganiyu Oyedepo, widely known as Koko Zaria, following charges of assaulting veteran Yoruba actor Lawori. The case has sparked significant attention due to the severity of the alleged attack.

Lawori had previously taken to social media to seek help after the assault, raising concerns for his safety. In response, the Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, assured the public via his official X account that justice would be served.

Koko Zaria was arraigned on Thursday, August 5, 2024, on charges of conspiracy, assault causing harm, and conduct likely to disturb public peace. Chief Magistrate B. Sonuga ordered his remand in prison pending further legal proceedings.

The prosecutor, Morufu Animashaun of the FCIID’s legal department, stated that the offences occurred on June 5, 2024, in Idimu, Lagos, with the involvement of Koko Zaria's associates. This development marks a significant step in the legal battle surrounding the high-profile case.
