Veteran comedian Gbenga Adeyinka has sparked controversy after describing President Bola Tinubu as a "financial wizard" capable of addressing Nigeria's economic challenges.

In a recent podcast appearance, Adeyinka urged Nigerians to give Tinubu two more years to turn things around, highlighting the president's experience and leadership as essential for the country's recovery.

Adeyinka, a known supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), argued that Tinubu’s record as Lagos State governor demonstrates his ability to manage financial crises and implement long-term solutions. He cited key policies like subsidy removal and local government autonomy as necessary steps but acknowledged the need for the government to tighten spending.

The comedian also addressed opposition leader Peter Obi, suggesting that even if Obi had won the presidency, he would face similar structural limitations, making it difficult for him to enact meaningful change under Nigeria’s current system.

Adeyinka’s comments ignited a flurry of reactions on social media. While some applauded his defense of Tinubu, others accused him of tribal bias and criticized his optimistic outlook amid the country's worsening economic conditions. 

“Tinubu is no financial wizard; he's a capitalist with no regard for the suffering masses,” one critic commented. Others questioned Tinubu's broader impact, asking why his supposed financial prowess hasn't transformed other parts of the country, particularly the Southwest.
