Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has sparked intense online discussions following his remarks on the 2024 Edo governorship election. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, the artist shared pointed observations on the electoral process, cautioning citizens to stay vigilant during the collation of votes.
Davido highlighted the crucial difference between winning an election and being declared the winner, urging Edo residents to monitor the collation centers closely. He tweeted, “Winning is one thing. Being declared a winner is another thing! …. From 7pm make una go Dey mount collation center !! #EdoDecide2024.”
Further fueling the debate, Davido openly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling it “the most dangerous institution in Nigeria.” He suggested that the real manipulation of results happens late at night, writing, “Nah that night dem Dey always strike …”
In response to curiosity about his interest in the Edo election, Davido clarified his personal connection, noting that his late mother hailed from Edo state. He shared, “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election …”
