Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has opened up about his harrowing battle with drug addiction, revealing that he nearly lost his life and was hospitalized in a psychiatric home.

The ‘Ngozi’ hitmaker shared the emotional story in a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, shedding light on the personal challenges he faced during his rise to fame.

Crayon recalled an episode where his manager noticed something was wrong with him after he smoked weed. His condition worsened, and he began walking barefoot on the street, heading to the Mavin Records studio.

"I walked down to Mavin studio barefooted. I feel like I’m God’s favourite because nobody recorded me during the episode," he said, reflecting on how public exposure could have damaged his confidence and career.

Upon reaching the Mavin studio, Crayon removed his shirt and smashed his iPhone in a fit of exhaustion. It was at this point that his colleague, Rema, stepped in to support him.

"Rema drove there and carried a stick, he was ready to fight," Crayon shared, recalling how Rema offered him words of encouragement during the dark moment. “Rema was like, ‘Bro, trust me, once you pass this stage, you will come out great because I feel like this is the final battle you’re about to fight.’"

Crayon's condition escalated to the point where he almost jumped out of a moving car before being taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki. Comparing his situation to the tragic case of Mohbad, he expressed gratitude for overcoming the ordeal and later reconnecting with Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy.
