Maverick Nigerian singer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has revealed intimate details about his close relationship with the late singer Tyna Onwudiwe, disclosing that they were once on the verge of marriage.

In a recent interview, Charly Boy shared that he and Tyna had discussed marriage but ultimately decided against it, believing that they would have clashed if they tied the knot.

"I almost married Tyna," he said. "One day, we sat down and talked about it. I said, 'Oh no, I don’t see myself marrying two wives.' And by the way, if we get married, we will kill ourselves. Let’s be good friends."

Their decision not to marry did not stop rumours from swirling, with many speculating that Charly Boy was the father of some of Tyna’s children. "People used to tease me by calling her my wife. They said your wife has cancer. Some of her kids, people think they’re my kids," he explained, setting the record straight.

Charly Boy also spoke fondly of Tyna’s generous nature, describing her as someone who would "give her last penny to a stranger." Despite their deep bond, they maintained a platonic friendship. During Tyna’s battle with cancer, Charly Boy made efforts to raise funds for her treatment, but tragically, she passed away on June 29, 2001, just 17 days after her 47th birthday.

Tyna Onwudiwe, remembered as a pioneering figure in Nigerian music, left a lasting legacy, and Charly Boy’s tribute sheds light on their special connection and the rumours that surrounded their relationship.
