British-Nigerian rapper and singer Darkoo, known for her bold and unapologetic style, recently shared an emotional chapter of her personal journey.
In a heartfelt episode of The Appointment Show podcast hosted by Layo, the queer artist revealed how coming out to her parents lifted an enormous weight off her shoulders, bringing her closer to her own happiness.

“The day I told my mom [about my sexuality], it felt like a massive weight off my shoulder… I’ve been happy since then,” Darkoo said, reflecting on the relief she felt after the conversation.
While she admitted that opening up was harder on her mother due to their close relationship, Darkoo expressed that the honesty brought a sense of liberation.
“It was very emotional for my mom,” she explained. Her father, on the other hand, seemed less involved in the emotional side of things but ultimately supported her. “My dad was not really interested in the conversation but at the end of the day, I’m living my life. And that’s what I’m doing,” Darkoo added.
