A recent investigation by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has uncovered shocking details about Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, and his controversial prison sentence.
According to the report, Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in jail by Justice Abimbola Awogboro for Naira abuse on April 12, 2024, spent only three weeks behind bars before being moved to a secret location where he allegedly enjoyed VIP treatment.
Despite his official release on August 5, rumors had long circulated about Bobrisky receiving special privileges during his sentence at Kirikiri prison. Those suspicions were further fueled when social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM), released an audio-visual clip in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have served his sentence in a private residence, thanks to the influence of his godfather.
The FIJ report adds weight to these claims, revealing that Bobrisky’s time in prison was anything but ordinary. According to sources within the Kirikiri prison, Bobrisky lived in a "special cell" and was "guarded like a president" during his brief stay. After three weeks, he was mysteriously moved to an undisclosed location where he reportedly completed the remainder of his sentence in comfort.
One prison official told FIJ, “Bob spent only three weeks here with us in Kirikiri before he was taken out to another place we don’t know. That was where he spent his time; it was an ‘arrangee thing.’ And money was involved.”
The report further alleges that Bobrisky indeed paid N15 million, as suggested in VDM’s earlier accusations, to secure his preferential treatment. While Bobrisky has consistently denied these claims, including allegations of bribing officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the new revelations from FIJ have sparked a fresh wave of outrage.
Social media has been abuzz with reactions, as many Nigerians express their frustration over what they see as a broken justice system that allows wealthy individuals to bypass punishment. The question now is—will Bobrisky’s camp respond to these explosive allegations, and could there be further legal repercussions on the horizon? The saga surrounding Bobrisky's controversial prison stay is far from over.
