In a candid interview with UK media platform GRM Daily on the latest episode of "Thoughts In A Culli," the Mavin/Jonzing signee spoke extensively about his career, the Afrobeats genre, and his personal philosophies.
Despite being regarded as part of the new Afrobeats "Big Four," the 24-year-old superstar expressed that he doesn’t see the need to compete with his esteemed colleagues. Rema emphasized his respect for Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, noting that he avoids getting caught up in the competitive narratives often driven by fans.
"I see myself as someone very respectful and don’t see the need to flex on my colleagues," Rema said. He elaborated that his focus remains on personal growth rather than rivalry. "I didn't know the likes of Burna Boy, Wizkid, or Davido five years ago; hence, I should not be so invested in competing with them now that they are colleagues."
Rema also addressed the notion of lyrical competition, stating that while some lyrics may imply an artist being better than others, he views it as part of the sport of music. "It's just sports, and outside the music, it should be love for one another."
