Mohbad, who passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023, has been at the center of public concern and calls for justice.
Following his death, Mohbad's body was exhumed for an autopsy at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). However, the toxicology report did not reveal any significant findings that could explain the cause of death, leading the family to reject the report and demand an independent autopsy.
As the first anniversary of Mohbad's death approaches, Yomi Fabiyi urged the public to participate in a peaceful protest at the upcoming court hearing, as well as a separate protest on the anniversary itself to continue pressing for justice.
In response, the family, through a statement issued on Wednesday by Monisola Odumosu, a member of their legal team, cautioned against any protests within the court premises. They emphasized that such actions could disrupt court proceedings and potentially lead to charges of contempt.
"Anyone is free to do whatever they want so far as it is within the confines of the law. The Constitution gives everyone the right to express his or her grievances. However, coming within the court precinct is another issue entirely. They must not make noise. The business of justice in the court must not be disturbed in any manner. Lest they be charged for contempt of court," the statement read.
The family stressed that while they support the public's right to express their grievances, it is crucial that any activities surrounding the court hearing be conducted in a manner that does not disrupt the judicial process. Their focus remains on ensuring that justice is pursued in a civil and lawful manner.
