British singer Lily Allen has revealed that she returned an adopted puppy after it caused significant chaos in her family by eating their passports.

Speaking on her podcast "Miss Her?", Allen recounted how the incident occurred during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, when the puppy, named Mary, destroyed her passport and those of her two daughters, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11.

Allen explained that the damage was more than just a minor inconvenience. The chewed-up passports, which contained their visas, caused a logistical nightmare, especially given the pandemic restrictions at the time. The situation became so dire that Allen was unable to take her daughters to see their father, who lives in England, for several months.

"I just couldn’t look at her — I was like, ‘You’ve ruined my life,’" Allen admitted, adding that the puppy's destructive behavior extended beyond the passports. Despite her efforts to manage the situation, Allen ultimately decided to return Mary to the adoption home.

Currently residing in New York with her husband, actor David Harbour, Allen disclosed that the couple is considering adopting another dog, despite the previous experience.

The story has sparked backlash, particularly from animal rights charity PETA, which has written an open letter urging Allen not to adopt another dog. The organization emphasized that dogs "should never be treated as accessories to be discarded when they become inconvenient."
