Grammy-winning South African singer Tyla has spoken out against the bullying faced by Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a Miss South Africa finalist who recently withdrew from the competition after facing intense scrutiny over her nationality.

Adetshina, a model of Nigerian and Mozambican heritage, became the center of a nationality controversy in July after advancing to the Top 16 of the prestigious beauty pageant.

Despite making it to the Top 11, Adetshina decided to pull out from the competition following allegations from the South African Department of Home Affairs that her mother might have committed fraud and identity theft. The controversy surrounding her heritage led to widespread criticism and, ultimately, her withdrawal from the pageant.

Reacting to the situation, Tyla expressed her disappointment over the harsh treatment Adetshina endured. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Tyla shared a report about Adetshina’s withdrawal and wrote: “Disappointed that this happened to her, but wish you all the best girl. Kill it!” She further emphasized that while she stands with South Africa, she does not condone the bullying that led to Adetshina’s departure from the competition.

In a turn of events, Miss Universe Nigeria has extended an invitation to Chidimma Adetshina to join their contest. However, Adetshina has yet to respond to the offer. The incident has sparked conversations about the treatment of individuals with diverse backgrounds in such high-profile competitions.
