Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has shared the heartfelt story of how poverty and his mother’s daily struggles motivated him to become a professional musician. Speaking in an interview with Capital Xtra London, Rema recounted the challenges his mother faced and his determination to change their circumstances.
Rema revealed that his mother couldn’t afford transport fares for her daily business, which pushed him to strive for success in music. “I was tired of my mum trekking every day; she didn’t even have money for transport to use a bus or bike. So I had to take it to the next level ASAP,” he said.
The young star took immediate action upon making his first significant earnings. “The moment I made money, I got her a car ASAP. We went for dinner, then I gave her that car. A lot of boys would go for their own cars first but I was still trekking, but I had to get a car for my mum first,” he shared.
Rema attributes much of his success to his mother’s influence and support. “She’s a great mum. She’s the reason I’m successful. Her prayers. She’s really proud of me,” he added.
This revelation has resonated with many fans and followers, highlighting Rema’s deep sense of gratitude and his inspiring journey from hardship to stardom.
