Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has spoken about the global rise of the afrobeats genre. During a Hiptv panel discussion with the United States Advisory Council on Africa Diaspora Engagement and leaders in Nigeria’s creative industries, Davido emphasized the growing influence and success of afrobeats artists.
Davido pointed out that afrobeats artists are now achieving the same level of success as international pop and hip-hop stars like Drake. "Afrobeats artists are selling the same tickets as Drake. Now one song as an afrobeats artist can change your generation," he said, highlighting the potential for substantial earnings and long-term wealth from a single hit.
He also urged young artists to prioritize collaborations with their peers within the afrobeats community rather than focusing on international features. “When you collaborate with your friends, they put their all,” Davido stressed, advocating for the power of local partnerships and mutual support in the music industry.
Davido’s insights underscore the transformative potential of afrobeats and its significant impact on the global music scene, as well as the importance of fostering strong, supportive networks among artists.
