Nollywood actress Dakore Egbuson Akande has initiated legal action against the notorious gossip blog Gistlover following allegations that she was romantically involved with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The blog's claims included Akande among a list of Akpabio's purported side chicks, which also named other celebrities.
Dakore Egbuson Akande, who is also the sister of actor Timini Egbuson, has vehemently denied these accusations. She publicly refuted the claims, stating she has never met Akpabio and reaffirmed her dedication to her marriage. Taking to social media, she announced the lawsuit, seeking a retraction, an apology, and damages for the defamation.
"I want to categorically state that I have never ever met the Senate president in my life," Akande wrote. "I have not had any cause to be in the same room with him, not to talk of being his side chick. I’m happily married with two beautiful children. I keep to myself, mind my business, I drink water and I do my work. So for someone to want to tarnish my hard-earned name and image for some clicks, no way."
Akande clarified that her income is derived from her legitimate work in the entertainment industry and not from any alleged illicit relationships. She emphasized that the lawsuit aims to uphold her reputation and seek justice against the baseless claims.
The legal action has sparked varied reactions online. Supporters have praised Akande for taking a stand against false allegations and for defending her integrity. "It’s about time celebrities took action against these baseless rumors," one fan commented. Another added, "I respect her for fighting for her name and her family."
However, some skeptics question the effectiveness of such measures against an anonymous blog like Gistlover. "It's good she's standing up for herself, but will the blog even listen?" one user pondered. Another expressed doubt, saying, "Legal action is the right step, but dealing with faceless bloggers is tricky."
