Popular Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor, known as Rema, has achieved a historic milestone with his hit song "Calm Down." The track has become the first African song to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the United States, according to Chart Data, an American music stats company.

Chart Data confirmed the achievement with a tweet: "REMA’s 'Calm Down' becomes the first Afrobeats song in history to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US."

This isn’t the first time "Calm Down" has made history. In August last year, the remix featuring Selena Gomez became the first African song to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify. Additionally, the original version of "Calm Down" was recognized by Guinness World Records as the first number one song on the world’s first regional streaming chart, MENA (Middle East and North Africa).

Rema’s groundbreaking accomplishments continue to elevate Afrobeats on the global stage, showcasing the genre's growing influence and popularity.
