The Tony Awards at Lincoln Center last night were a memorable occasion for Angelina Jolie and Daniel Radcliffe, both of whom took home their first-ever Tony Awards.
Angelina Jolie, as the producer of "The Outsiders: A New Musical," celebrated a win for Best Musical, bringing her halfway to achieving EGOT status. Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe was honored with the award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role in "Merrily We Roll Along."
The biggest winner of the night was David Adjmi’s film, "Stereophonic," which triumphed in five out of its 13 nominated categories at the 2024 Tony Awards. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' "Appropriate" garnered three awards, while Alicia Keys' "Hell's Kitchen" took home two from its ten nominations.
Special Tony Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre were awarded to Jack O'Brien and George C. Wolfe. Additional Special Tony Awards were given to Abe Jacob, Alex Edelman, and Nikiya Mathis.
Honored for Excellence in the Theatre were Colleen Jennings-Roggensack, the Dramatists Guild Foundation, Judith O. Rubin, The Samuel J. Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts, Wendall K. Harrington, and The Wilma Theater.
