While Nigerian Afrobeats powerhouse Rema was dazzling at Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Spring-Summer Show during Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, his global hit "Calm Down" was making waves at the 2024 ASCAP London Music Awards.
"Calm Down" secured the prestigious Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song awards. The song’s co-writers and co-producers, Michael Hunter (aka London) and Andre Vibez, were also credited as winners. These accolades bring Rema’s total American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) awards to three, the most by any Nigerian or African artist.
With these latest wins, Rema has become the most awarded African artist of 2024, boasting a total of six awards. His impressive collection includes 1 Trends Award in Brazil, 1 iHeartRadio Music Award, 1 ASCAP Pop Music Award, and 2 ASCAP London Music Awards.
In addition to these achievements, "Calm Down" recently made history as the first Afrobeats song to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US, according to our source.
Rema’s continuous success highlights his significant impact on the global music scene, cementing his status as a leading figure in the Afrobeats genre.
