Nollywood icon Amaechi Muonagor was laid to rest on Friday in his Obosi country home in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The burial ceremony was marked by tears and heartfelt tributes from family members, relatives, and the Nollywood community.
Among those present to mourn the late actor were Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Dom Onyenji, among others.
In his condolence speech, Peter Obi lamented the death of the beloved icon, urging the bereaved family to take heart and praying for the repose of Muonagor's soul.
Dom Onyenji highlighted the loss to Nollywood, noting that Amaechi Muonagor was a creative force and played his roles exceptionally well while mentoring many stars in the industry. He emphasized that the Anambra State government was there to mourn with Nollywood, recognizing the significant impact Muonagor had on the entertainment sector.
Emeka Ejezie, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), represented by veteran actor Steve Eboh, also urged the bereaved family to find solace in the great legacy left by the deceased. Ejezie prayed for God's infinite mercy to grant the family strength to bear the loss.
Mrs. Chinyere Anyaegbunam, the state chairman of AGN, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Muonagor as a precious figure in the industry and a father figure to many. She highlighted his role as a mentor to numerous actors and emphasized the significant void his passing has created.
Amaechi Muonagor's contributions to Nollywood and his mentorship to many in the industry have left an indelible mark. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide future generations of actors.
