In a recent interview with the New York Times, Tems shared that her debut album, initially scheduled for release in 2021, had to be postponed due to a health issue that required surgery and a subsequent six-month recovery period.
Tems, who gained international fame in 2020 with her collaboration on Wizkid’s summer hit "Essence," explained that instead of her debut album, she released her sophomore extended play (EP), 'If Orange Was a Place,' during her recovery period. The illness and the recovery journey profoundly influenced her new music, which she described as a reflection of embracing life with the resilience of a warrior.
"Being a warrior is about not giving up," Tems stated. "Even if they cut your leg, you walk on your knees, you fight on your knees using what you have — and that’s good enough."
The much-anticipated debut album, titled 'Born In The Wild,' is set to be released on June 7. Fans are eagerly awaiting this new chapter in Tems' career, which promises to be both powerful and deeply personal.
In addition to the album release, Tems is gearing up for her first headline world tour, which will also kick off in June. This tour is expected to showcase her new music and celebrate her journey of resilience and recovery.
Stay tuned for more updates on Tems' upcoming album and tour dates. Her story is a testament to the strength and determination that continues to inspire fans around the world.
